2011

Let us remember that at the end of April 2011, given the extraordinary precocity of the vegetation, some were already predicting an earlier harvest than in 2003!

From the second week of July onwards, the situation changed: weather conditions became very changeable, with alternating periods of rain and storms and beautiful hot, sunny days. The water deficit observed since the beginning of the season was being compensated for, but this unstable weather also brought hailstorms, such as the one on 12 July over part of ST AUBIN and PULIGNY MONTRACHET. We saw some evidence of this (burst berries, pierced leaves) on our CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET vines.

At the same time, temperatures have changed radically compared to June. They remain below seasonal norms and are even approaching early autumn levels. Under these conditions, veraison is struggling to get underway and the prospect of harvesting in August is fading!

In August, this unstable weather will continue with weeks of intense heat and rainy spells, triggering the first outbreaks of rot. We will then begin closely monitoring our plots to plan the harvest at the optimum moment. We therefore began harvesting our BOURGOGNE and LADOIX plots on Tuesday 30 August with a small team, while we will be in SANTENAY and CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET from Friday 2 September with our forty harvesters and around ten people sorting the grapes.

The beautiful weather during these days in September, combined with the efficiency of our new harvest reception facility, allowed us to carry out long traditional macerations on the vatted grapes. This enabled us to extract fruit and tannins for wines that are silky and structured, fruity and lively.

Tasting notes red

The 2011 red wines are silky, charming and delicious.

Tasting notes white

The white wines lack a little structure and liveliness.
