As soon as vegetation resumed, the vines entered an early cycle.
Flowering confirmed this early start. On 28 May, flowering was complete on the Chardonnay vines, and the fine weather that continued until 5 June allowed the Pinot Noir vines to finish flowering in very good conditions. The only slight downside was for our new POMMARD vineyard: on 6 June, flowering had not yet begun. This is because the location is subject to the cold of the valley and the conditions of acquisition meant that we had to prune late.
The crop looks good, with beautiful grapes and a strong structure. We are planning to harvest on 10 September, one hundred days after flowering.
The first fortnight of June is quite unstable but warm, with very heavy localised downpours, making it difficult to carry out trimming before treatment. Some of our plots are more susceptible to mildew attacks. Others are subject to a severe outbreak of powdery mildew, which will be well contained thanks to the dusting we have been using since last year.
After a very sunny July and August, interspersed with a few stormy spells, our 40 grape pickers set out to harvest the grapes on 11 September under bright sunshine and, as an added bonus, cool nights. It was ideal weather for this team, made up mainly of regulars, some of whom took a few days off work to take part in the harvest.
The red wines are dense, full-bodied and fleshy. A vintage with low acidity that should age well over the decades but can also be enjoyed young due to its relative suppleness.
